I found editors! Somebody cue the Pointer Sisters because I\u2019m so excited! I\u2019ve found editors that I like, and that I would feel comfortable hiring. I haven\u2019t reached out to anyone \u2013 not quite there yet, but just having access to their information, and knowing I can contact them when I\u2019m ready brings me joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It hasn\u2019t been that long of a time coming, and I\u2019m glad my research paid off, because I really didn\u2019t want to be messin\u2019 around at this stage when there\u2019s so much more to go. But now I feel confident that I will be able to secure I good editor and I can\u2019t wait to work with her\u2026or him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And why do I think I\u2019m going to get a really good editor you ask? It\u2019s because I came across the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), which, in addition to other offerings has a whole directory of freelance editors for hire. Before landing on this gem I was coming across a bunch of resources that all wanted me to join their mailing list, subscribe to something, create an account \u2013 that type of shit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not EFA. You go to their website, enter your search terms and they return results that you can scroll through without having to sign up, join or provide your email for anything. It was just perfect. What\u2019s more, all the editors I clicked on had their own website in addition to their profile on the EFA site, which really helped me to get a better understanding of who these people are and already begin to assess whether or not they would be a good fit for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A few scrolls in and I came across one editor that I thought would be a really good fit. Like stop the search and get her on my team good fit. But I can\u2019t let the excitement of self-publishing for the first time get to me. I don\u2019t know this woman. For whatever reason, she may not work out, so while I will prioritize her for now, I\u2019m still going to put her on a list with four others and reach out to them all. After I contact and interact with at least five editors, I\u2019ll then make my decision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But yeah, it looks like this thing is happening, it feels like this thing is happening\u2026did I mention I\u2019m so excited!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What thrills me even more than being on the cusp of hiring an editor is that also means that you\u2019re one step closer to being able to read my book! I can\u2019t tell you how much I love this story, though I guess I kinda just did. It\u2019s just such a\u2026.hmm, I don\u2019t even know how to describe it. It\u2019s just an eye-opening story. It\u2019s a story design to challenge how you see things \u2013 didn\u2019t I do a post the other day about whether or not perception is everything? Well, this story really plays on that theme. It\u2019s about how one can perceive things, and how events in one\u2019s personal life as well as norms in society play a role in shaping how we perceive things \u2013 what\u2019s real, what\u2019s false; what\u2019s just my imagination, and what\u2019s actually right here before me, these are the concepts that this story grapples with, set against the backdrop of fantasy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So yeah, it is such a great read!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But before we can go there, I need to do another edit. I just want to make sure I\u2019m being as clear as I can and precise as I can be. The cleaner the copy I provide the editor, the less money I have to pay. Needless to say I have a vested interest in getting it right and getting it tight.
