My elliptical came in a few days ago, it wasn\u2019t supposed to get here until tomorrow, so I was happy about that. I just started assembling it today and ran into trouble, so I\u2019ll attempt it again tomorrow. It\u2019s actually not an elliptical it\u2019s an elliptical\/stationary bike and it was only $165 with the tax, so a pretty good deal. Come to think of it, maybe that\u2019s why I\u2019m having trouble putting it together \u2013 it\u2019s cheap! But I had one before and it worked really well, so I\u2019m hoping that this time around it will do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In other news, I\u2019ve been getting ghosted and rejected in my job search left and right. I\u2019ve halted that pursuit for the time being. I\u2019d be lying if I said it doesn\u2019t hurt to some extent that I\u2019m not wanted by these companies. But the truth of the matter is I don\u2019t really want them either. I mean, don\u2019t get me wrong, some of them would have definitely been cool, but none of them would have been a dream. Now, I think\u2026no, I know, my true dream is to work for myself. But I also need a paycheck, so yeah, there\u2019s that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By the way I know I mentioned applying to a low-paying job a few entries back, well, I didn\u2019t do it. I just could not bring myself to do it. I mean, don\u2019t get me wrong (my second time using that phrase), it\u2019s not like the other jobs I\u2019ve been applying to are so much as paying six figures, but this job was like closer to minimum-wage\u2026well, California fast-food minimum-wage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sure, I\u2019m running out of money, but I\u2019m not at the point where I have to take just anything\u2026yet. And that\u2019s not to say that I think I\u2019m too good for a minimum-wage job. I\u2019ve actually worked several minimum-wage or damn-near-close-to-it jobs as a college grad with experience under my belt. It\u2019s just that I really hope to avoid that this time around. I mean an honest living is an honest living, but it does something to your soul to be in that situation \u2013 at least for me. For me, it just sent me in a spiral of one low-paying job after another. Like even when the job isn\u2019t an unskilled worker job anymore, even when I switched to a job that required a degree, I still got low-balled, yet I eagerly took those jobs, even without negotiation because it was more than what I made before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I remember when I was in college I had a seasonal job that I worked during summer, Christmas, and occasionally spring breaks. One summer there was this girl, a black girl, that worked there who was a USC honors grad and she was working at this practically minimum-wage paying job. I was like 19 at the time and she was no older than 23, but back then, 23 seemed old to me. Anyway, I couldn\u2019t believe she was working there after she\u2019d already gotten her degree. Fast forward a few years and at 23 I was working at Sears and then a restaurant. And the funny thing is, I had made it a point to graduate in four years and I did\u2026well, close enough. I graduated in December instead of June, but I was still 21, though barely. But the point is it didn\u2019t matter, because I didn\u2019t have a job lined up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People be complaining about the job market now, but that turn of the century job market \u2013 that 2001, 2002 job market was insane. And what was worse, you couldn\u2019t apply online as much as you can now. A lot of those jobs you had to send in a resume by mail or fax. You had to buy resume paper. I don\u2019t even think they sell resume paper anymore at Kinkos. But anyway, I don\u2019t know where I\u2019m going with this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moving right along, I don\u2019t have an update on my self-publishing journey this week, other than to say I am in the trenches. But I feel like I always say that, so like what\u2019s new. Oh, I guess I do have a little update. I think I have a launch date. The perfect launch date, but I won\u2019t reveal it until I have my book cover art to share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hmm, what else can I share? I guess that\u2019s all for now. Today\u2019s post is giving one of those something is better than nothing kinda days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
