Like I said, watching commencement address hadn\u2019t been my thing in years. However, after Usher\u2019s speech, I went in search of 2025 commencement speeches and hers was one of the first to pop up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can\u2019t say that I\u2019m a fan or not a fan of Jennifer Coolidge. I mean I loved her in \u201cLegally Blonde,\u201d I like her Discover Card commercials and I hear she was great in the second season of \u201cWhite Lotus,\u201d though I haven\u2019t seen that show because I don\u2019t have cable. But, similar to Usher, she\u2019s not someone that comes to mind when I think of academia \u2013 the typical commencement speaker. I am, however, totally fine with being proven wrong. Let\u2019s watch how she did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jennifer Coolidge Delivers Commencement Address to Emerson College 2025 Graduates\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bbOH4A1mecQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interesting Observation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the stand-out things about her speech was not what she said, but how she said it. She sounded either partially dunk or constipated, I couldn\u2019t figure out which. Perhaps she was playing up the character trope she often portrays in her work. I need to watch an interview with her to get a better idea. But whatever the case, the way she spoke was definitely\u2026interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inspirational Takeaways\/ Quotes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou just have to have insane expectations and believe they\u2019re going to come true.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI expected something great would really happen to me\u2026It was the one and only thing I really had going for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Overall Thoughts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I liked that fact that in spite of traditional expectations, she didn\u2019t get up there trying to give a speech like she was an erudite scholar, when she\u2019s really more of an around the way girl\u2026well, the working-class Boston suburb version of it \u2013 not that you can\u2019t be both. As a writer, the advice you\u2019re often given is write what you know. In this speech Jennifer talked about what she knows \u2013 herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While most of the headlines touting her speech highlighted her saying \u201cjust friggin\u2019 do it,\u201d I appreciated the story she told about seeing Grace Kelly as the queen of Monaco on the cover of Life magazine and thinking that great things could happen for her too. I love how she stated she lived in her imagination despite her circumstances. It was a mindset thing for her. And even though she experienced a lot of rejection and didn\u2019t experience career success until later in life, she didn\u2019t give up. She shot for the moon. It\u2019s like Donnie Simpson used to say at the end of each \u201cVideo Soul\u201d episode \u2013\u201cshoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you\u2019ll still be among the stars.\u201d Slurred speech or not, that message is always clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Clue Breakdown<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you decipher yesterday\u2019s clue? I\u2019ve got the breakdown for you. But first, let\u2019s revisit the clue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Our next speaker would probably fly more under the radar if it wasn\u2019t for their huge cult following that would make anyone feel like a boss. Don\u2019t get bent out of shape if you can\u2019t guess who it is.
