I’m gonna need a bigger budget!
It’s funny, when I started these $20 Day Trips, it came from a reasonable place – a responsible place. That, and it was like a cute, fun little challenge to maximize my minimal funds. The idea being, instead of cutting myself off of travel completely, I could give myself a little taste, a little sample of an excursion, you know, to get me out the house.
Come to find out, that little taste was sometimes more like a tease, and nobody likes that. Some places are just more conducive to a $20 budget, while other places are not. Take San Diego for example, with their free parks, and free beaches with free parking, my $20 went much further for me, then say a place like Palm Springs where there wasn’t that much to do (at least for me) on that budget.
Palm Springs is more a place where you need to book a hotel, order drinks and snacks while laying out by the pool as you read a book, type vibe. And that, my friend, costs more than $20.
I guess my problem is, I’m a little too good with working with too little money. That’s a blessing and a curse. Somethings just cost more. I mean, it’s one thing if you just want something more expensive simply because it costs more – there’s no point in that. That’s a waste of money. But if you want something and the something you want happens to cost more, then that’s something worth pursuing.
I don’t want to shut myself out of the things that I want the cost more. If that makes sense. I’m really hoping you catch my drift.
So anyway, I said all that to say, I’m going to have to do a day trip with a bigger budget.
Don’t worry, if you like my $20 Day Trips, they’re not going away. I’ma just hit you with a little variety, maybe throw a $100 day trip into the mix, you know, ‘cause I’m a big spender…
…And she giggles.
Fun Facts:
I got the idea to do $20 Day Trips from the old Food Network show Rachel Ray used to host called “$40 a Day.”
While I was born and raised in California and my day trips are here, there’s so much of this amazing state I’ve yet to explore. I’ve actually been to our nation’s capital six times, but I have yet to go to Sacramento.
