I’m Posting Every day for the Month of October: Here’s What’s to Come…

It’s October, and I’m back at it! Perhaps you’ve wondered where I’ve been, well it’s all coming up this month so check back every day to get the deets. I must admit, it’s a bit scary writing about being fired. Oh, by the way, I was recently fired from my job. I mean, writing, for me is kinda scary period. I always seem to be besieged with writer’s block – even more so when it comes to the topic of your job giving you the old heave-ho. But as the story goes, I must write.  And too, people are getting fired, laid-off, at the very least experiencing some form of rejection all the time. I figured sharing my experience has the potential to make someone else feel not so alone.

But there’s more to life than a job. This month, I’ll also be talking about life outside of work – just life in general, because good, bad and everything in between, life is so fucking interesting! That’s the power of stories in general, giving someone something to relate to, or exploring something new. I’m going to be doing that all month, so thanks for coming along with me!

This week’s (October 2 -7) posts are gonna be all about getting fired: how it happened (why I think it happened), lessons I’ve learned, what I’ve been up to since and how I’m moving on.

Remember that short story I wanted to turn into a book? Yep, haven’t done so yet, but it is my goal to prioritize that during this last quarter of the year. The following week’s (October 8 -14) posts will be all about the self-publishing process. From putting my final editing touches on it to finding an actual editor and all the things I have to do to get this book out of my computer and into your hands.

I’m kicking off the third week (October 15 – 22) as a no work, no career talk zone. I’m bringing back an old favorite to discuss. Can someone say Movie Scenes I Love?  I’ll also be talking about the Bible and God, food, interesting things I’ve read about or saw online – just no work or career stuff.

Finally, I’ll wrap up the month (October 23 – 31) with thoughts on being alone versus being social. Lately, I’ve been seeing some interesting commentary on that, and of course I have thoughts about it of my own. Be sure to check back in during the last week of October to get my take on the matter.

As a matter of fact, be sure to check back every day during the month of October, because new posts will be coming every day for the entire month!  See I keep saying that so I can hold myself to it, because you know how I be doin’.

Welcome to my write a post everyday for the month of October challenge!  As usual, entries will be posted sometime before midnight.

Bear with me y’all – this is hard…but I’m so excited!

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. — Psalm 46:4

Lord, let me be that river.
