Wednesday Roundup: No Rhyme Just Reason

It’s Wednesday Roundup time again, and that title just came to me, because there is no theme again today and I like the No Rhyme Just Reason title better than simply saying random, though today’s post is pretty random.

But anyway, here we go…

I just thought this post was so funny, and that head nod before walking off — hilarious. I mean this would be disgusting behavior if someone really did this, but in this skit it’s funny. And as a fellow tall person who’s been asked to get something for someone off the top shelf, sometimes I just want to say no. Sometimes I want to be like, “I don’t work here,” or maybe just ignore them and keep going. I don’t know why, it’s such a simple request, but it can be annoying. It hasn’t happened in a while though, so watch, next time I’m at the store, some short person or some elderly person will ask me to get something for them off the top shelf…and of course, I’ll oblige.

I loved this. It makes me feel seen. Sometimes I have friendship FOMO, especially when I see these relationships on TV, or social media: friends going to brunch, concerts, trips. Meanwhile, I do all those things alone. But the fact of the matter is, it’s one thing to have people to hang out with, it’s another to have friends. And I would venture to say a lot of people don’t have friends, they have people they hang out with. And when the funk hits the fan, like in the case of the pandemic like this lady is talking about, you find out who your true friends really are. So in the meantime, you better learn to be a good friend to yourself.

Case in point: this right here is exactly why I don’t have friends. I don’t know anyone, besides my mother, who would do this for me. If you are not at the ready to begin your polemic in defense of me with, “let me tell you something…” we can’t be friends. You’re either ride-or-die or nothing at all. I just loved seeing how Flau’jae supported Angel Reese in her time of need.

I just love seeing a smart kid, especially one from the back woods of Louisiana, because when you’re born and raised in LA, Monroe, Loo-si-ana definitely seems like the back woods. There’s so many stereotypes regarding people from places like that, so it’s just nice to see something different even as I know smart people are everywhere. Actually, I really believe everyone has some level of genius. I mean if you really pay attention. I don’t think I’ve ever met a dumb person. But anyway, love to see black boy joy.

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!

Lord, let me be that river.
