Thank You 2025!!!

So it’s the end of the year. The last day of the year. I think it’s interesting how people start saying happy new year on December 26th.  I don’t get that. Of course when people say it to me, I just say it back, or I say, have a happy new year instead of simply happy new year, because the New Year is not here yet. There are a lot of people who died between December 26th and December 31st. These people didn’t make it to the new year no matter how close they got. So for that reason I don’t like saying happy new year before the new year. I first want to make it over.

Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot of people on social media, mainly Instagram, posting all their accomplishments from 2025. People are celebrating getting new jobs, having babies, getting married, traveling the world, getting awards…oh yeah, and publishing books and going on a book tour, among other things.

While I always harbor some happiness in my heart for when they make such accomplishments, there’s also a part of me that thinks, where’s mine?

When I look back over 2025, I’m grateful for what I sometimes like to call the usual suspects – my health and strength. I’ll even break it down further to the fact that I can see, hear, walk, talk, stand, sit. That I have a roof over my head and food in my belly. That I have a car and a job even though it’s part time and low paying. Basically, all the stuff that I can easily take for granted.

The crick that I had in my neck a couple weeks ago, however, reminded me how special it is to not feel any pain in my body. Just to be able to get up and move, hell go to the bathroom even and not have to worry about making a move that will cause me pain for the next few days. There’s nothing like being sick to make you be grateful for the times when you are well. So I’m grateful to that crick in my neck. And I’m even grateful that it lasted so long. That was a huge reminder that feeling good, being well, doesn’t have to be for me. I could be sick and I’m not, Praise the Lord!

I may not have any grand accomplishments that would make people ooo and ahhh on social media. And 2025, like so many others, was a sho nuff hard year for me. But I’m not gonna let a rock cry out in my place. He’s worthy of all my praise. I may not have everything I want, but I have everything I need, and I’m grateful.

At the same time, the end of my 2025 is looking a lot like the end of my 2024 and that means little to no progress. So I need to work on that. I can be grateful for what I have while still wanting more. As a matter of fact, it was God who said, “be fruitful and multiply.” Yet I feel like I’ve pretty much been stagnant.

So my goal for 2026 is not only to make it to the end, but to make sure that it significantly builds on my accomplishments of 2025. My goal is to not remain stagnant. And now I’ll have to create a plan.

Here’s to 2026! And since that year will have probably already rolled in by the time you read this, I will go on ahead and do the thing that I find annoying and say Happy New Year even as I’m writing this it’s not quite 2026 yet!!!

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. — Psalm 46:4

Lord, let me be that river.
