My “Killing It” FYC Experience & Thoughts on the First Episode of This Peacock Show

So last week I was fortunate enough to attend the FYC event (FYC standing for For Your Consideration, which is the moniker they give the Emmy campaigning season) for the Peacock show “Killing It.” I’d never seen or heard of…

Movie Scenes I Love: The Living Room Scene from ‘Jungle Fever’

It was one of the most highly anticipated films for me as a kid – Jungle Fever. I remember driving (or riding) around town, seeing the billboards of the dark-chocolate-brown hand of Wesley Snipes, interlocked with the peachy-beige hand of…

Why Sharon Osbourne’s Blow Up at ‘The Talk’ Matters

I’ve been eagerly awaiting CBS’s daytime gabfest The Talk’s return, wondering how they are going to address the Sharon Osbourne debacle that took place live on-air on March 10.  I turned on the TV yesterday (the day they were scheduled…

Friendly Fire: The Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka Rivalry

Whenever Serena Williams plays Naomi Osaka, I’m always rooting for Serena. I’ve known of Serena longer, she’s closer to my age, and I’m all for the history she’s trying to make. But I must admit, there is a salve to…

Kamala Harris: The Audacity of Ambition

I was driving in my car alone, headed home, around 5:30 in the evening, when I heard the news. It came from a prerecorded quick blurb on KJLH radio, congratulating Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s historic vice-presidential pick.  Later, when…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!
