My Writing Practice: Ryan Clark, Usher and the Ego Factor

Recently, there have been two new stories that have caught my attention: the ESPN firing of Ryan Clark and the reluctant woman at Usher’s concert. When I think about those two incidents,  one of the words that come prominently to…

December Writing Practice Part III: Writing and Consuming Romantic Comedies as a Christian

One of my favorite, if not my favorite movie genre is the romantic-comedy or dramady. I just love a good love story, especially one that has some depth and has well developed characters—interesting characters with lives and issues outside of…

December Writing Practice Part I: What Happened?

Remember that post from the beginning of this month? The one where I was so ambitious with my writing goals? Yeah, that one. I knew when I thought those goals up, let alone committed them to the keyboard and screen,…

The End is Only the Beginning

So I made it to the end of the first week in December, and well, it didn’t go exactly as planned. Last minute set backs sprang forward that I wasn’t expecting and had no response for.  One day I picked…

How I Write: How I Bit Off More Than I Can Chew

I was so disappointed in my April 14th and April 20th posts. I’m pretty sure they’re shit. I haven’t read them yet…well, I haven’t read them again yet. I haven’t read them again since I posted them because I’m afraid…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!
