The End is Only the Beginning

So I made it to the end of the first week in December, and well, it didn’t go exactly as planned. Last minute set backs sprang forward that I wasn’t expecting and had no response for.  One day I picked up extra hours at work and consequently was too exhausted to even think. Once the exhaustion wore off and I got to thinking, I realized the post I was going to write was going to be longer than I thought, and I had nothing planned to compensate for it. Oh, I think that’s the day I gave you my favorite Christmas songs. Then I got a crick in my neck and didn’t write the Movie Scenes I  Love post the way I really wanted to. I came through the following day, but honestly I don’t know what state that post is in. I wrote it really last minute, like this one, and didn’t break it down like I really wanted to. Then my Something in the News post got swallowed up in the mix, and now this post. This was supposed to be something random if I remember correctly, because I don’t feel like looking at the schedule. But I think I’m right, so at least I’m sticking to the script with this one.

Even though I fucked up this week, and what I produced doesn’t exactly resemble what I said it would, I’m just happy I got through it. I’m just happy I came back everyday to write something. I’m just happy I didn’t quit.

I’m making something. I’m building something. Right now, I’m just laying the foundation – trial and fucking error. It doesn’t have to be perfect, thankfully, because it wasn’t. And I’m not going to beat myself up about it like I usually would. At least it gives me a lens to look through. I’ve gone from rumination to practice. I’ve taken something out of my head and put it to paper, put it to the screen. Now I can determine how to move forward. But one thing’s for certain, I’m moving forward.

Here’s to next week. Here’s to writing.

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. — Psalm 46:4

Lord, let me be that river.
