Happy New Year!
2021 is finally here, and damn if it ain’t start off with a bang.
Anyway, I choose today’s title as sort of a tribute to Alex Trebek’s last week on Jeopardy. I wasn’t exactly a Trebek fan. I actually thought he could be kinda rude, but I didn’t not like the guy either, and I can’t imagine anyone else as a host of that show – he’s all I’ve ever known. Anyway, on Jeopardy when they have a category that has a bunch of different answers from different topics, they call that category potpourri, and that’s what this post is going to be – potpourri.
First up, about those brown butter rice crispy treats I mentioned in my last post. I couldn’t wait ‘til New Year’s Eve, I made them right after my last post. I was so excited to taste all this flavor they said the brown butter would add. Well, I don’t know if I was doing it wrong or what, but I couldn’t taste the difference between a brown butter rice crispy treat and a regular rice crispy treat.
Everyone I watched on YouTube was saying that it adds a nutty, caramelly, almost toffee like flavor, and um, that would be a no. I even made sure to get those brown bits at the bottom that video after video proclaimed, “that’s where all the flavor is.” But again, no.
Now I will admit it did smell a tad bit caramelly when I mixed the brown butter with the marshmallows, but I didn’t smell that when I was browning the butter, furthermore, I definitely didn’t taste it once I made the treats.
Like I said, of course there is the possibility that I did it wrong, but what I think really happened is some famous chef came up with this idea that brown butter is supposed to be awesome, and then everyone else just jumped in the bandwagon and agreed, even though they too couldn’t taste the difference. I’ll try it again to be sure. That’ll have to wait after I finish the Daniel Fast though.
In other news, the Georgia runoff is complete and yielded two new Democratic senators, which with VP-Elect Kamala Harris having the tie-breaking vote, gives the dems the majority. I’m neither a Democrat nor a Republican, I am a concerned American, and I will vote and have voted from people in both parties. In particular, I’m not a fan of how it seems that so many black people are practically in the bag for Democrats, even though over the years it’s yielded little to no results. I actually go into a Twitter argument about this this some, soon after Kamala Harris was picked. Black people were arguing with me saying how much dems have done for blacks and that they would do more if it weren’t for Mitch McConnell. Well now Mitch McConnell is going to be the minority leader and dems have the majority in the house, the senate, and they have the presidency. Let’s see what happens – hopefully progress and good things, but…
Then there was the storming of the Capitol today. What a crazy scene. I was glued to the TV all day. I couldn’t stop watching. It’s amazing that this whole thing wasn’t stopped before it got that far. It’s amazing that so many people could storm the Capitol of all places, and not get tear-gassed or hit with rubber bullets. But then again, they were white, so I’m not surprised, but amazed nonetheless.
Finally, I’ve been working on a script and I’m going to submit it to a contest, and the deadline’s quickly approaching.
Whew, that was a lot, and for now that’s it.
