It’s back. I know it’s no longer Wednesday, but I fell asleep. Here’s 6 Instagram posts that caught my eye recently…
I must admit, I was not excited about a black Ariel, I was actually against it. I almost viewed it as being performative, no pun intended, in the grand scheme of things because how is that going to work overall? Are they going to have black Ariel dolls…and I mean like five years from now, not just right now to capitalize off the movie. There’s an Ariel ride at Disneyland, are they going to stick the black Ariel in that? Is she going to be in the parades at the Disney Parks globally? I know it’s just a character, but the whole thing with Disney is that to children and grown-up Disney freaks, these characters are real, so how do you rationalize the two different looks?
I think instead of doing a black Ariel, they should have done a spinoff movie with a black mermaid that has her own story. That way that character could live at the parks, be incorporated into the ride and merchandise all the time, not just temporarily during this movie.
Nevertheless, I must say I was so proud of Halle Bailey and how she handled the controversy surrounding this role. The girl was only 19 years old when the movie was announced and she began getting all that hate, and yet she went on to do a masterful job with this character. I had to go see it in the theater to support, and her performance of “Part of Your World” brought tears to my eyes. I was so proud that she didn’t let all the negativity get her down and instead she crushed that vocal and even added some soul to it with that run she did on the word “be” towards the end. I’m beaming!
Now I love whales, but this ain’t it. I would die. And damn if that whale ain’t teasin’ them people, then had the nerve to wave bye at the end like get out of my habitat. Though I must admit, I love watching this!
I love this — have to remind myself of this all the time. I betta use what I got!
Um, I’ma need my kidney back.
It’s the cutest thing!
“It’s not even wine yet” –ha! too funny!
