I’m writing this on my iPhone…

It’s not even a big iPhone. It’s an SE iPhone which makes it even harder. Look at me trying to feel good about myself for sticking to posting everyday. You be getting something at the last minute(it’s 11:05pm right now) but dammit, you gone get something. I remember back in the day when I think Drake said he wrote his songs on a Blacberry and I wonder how in the hell did he do that, but I guess it can be done. Look at me, I’m getting faster as I type.

But anyway, I don’t have much to say today. I mean I do but this is not the ideal way to say it. I need to have my thoughts well thought out, and I can’t do that here. But I can say is that I’m proud of myself today for getting up when I didn’t feel like it. I had a lot of stuff to do today, and I pretty much got to it all, but it all started with getting out of bed.

Isn’t it amazing how a nice hot shower can really wake you up, at least temporarily, because a couple hours later I was tired again, but I pushed through it and I’m happy I did.

I think today was just a reminder to not be so hard on myself. I try to be brutally honest with myself as to guard myself from delusions. Like even if I lie to you—which for the most part I don’t do, but everybody lies sometimes— I try not to lie to myself. But I think in an effort to be honest, sometimes I go to the negative extreme. I can focus on everything I did wrong and not acknowledge anything I did right.

now I’m working on that. Even if I do a million things wrong in a day, while I acknowledge that, im still going to congratulate myself on whatever I did right. And today that was getting up when I didn’t feel like it, making it through the day, and giving you another post 23 days in a row…and we’ll you know, if I count the small stuff I could go on., but I won’t.

so if you’re like me and sometimes you have a tendency to beat yourself up about everything, let this be your reminder that you don’t have to. While you don’t have to sugarcoat the things you did wrong, it’s okay to pat yourself on the back for the things you did right, even if it’s just getting up when you didn’t want to.

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. — Psalm 46:4

Lord, let me be that river.
