Wishing Me a Prolific Writing December

Ever since I discovered that I most likely have NOT gotten my 10,000 hours in to become an expert writer, it’s left me with an unsettling feeling. And so, I’m counting on the month of December to help me get closer to that goal.

This month, I’m going to be writing like crazy…at least writing like crazy for me, because you know it be taking me forever to produce a post. But this month, not so.

I’m starting out with a bang, posting everyday beginning today through Sunday, December 7th. After that, I’m posting every Sunday this month, and I may even throw in a surprise post here and there, so be on the lookout.

To make it easier on myself, as well as helpful for you to know what’s coming next, I’ve mapped out the topics I’ll be writing about for the entire month in advance.

Here’s the rundown:

Tuesday, December 2nd: It’s a post all about still indulging in food while also not neglecting fitness. That’s hard for me to do period, but especially around the holidays. But I have a plan. I’ll share what I’ll be doing to take this challenge head on, including a simple method I recently uncovered that just might stop you from gaining too much weight.

Wednesday, December 3rd: It’s time I get honest with myself about my writing. I’m going to do something I almost never do – read and critique my own writing and share my thoughts with you. I’m picking 5 previous posts at random and giving my honest opinion. Will I mostly like them or not like them?

Thursday, December 4th: As mentioned in my previous post, I’m supposed to be writing and editing my stories this month. I’ll update you on my progress and my writing and editing process.

Friday, December 5th: It’s another Movie Scenes I Love post. I’ll be discussing my all-time favorite romantic-comedy and highlighting one of its scenes that I love. Can you guess what it is? Here’s a clue, it’s set in New York and features an amazing PM Dawn song. I hope that clue is hard to guess – it’s meant to be.

Saturday, December 6th: I’ll be pulling a topic straight from the headlines and putting my two cents in for this Something In the News post.

Sunday, December 7th: I’m picking a topic at random. Maybe I’ll see something while scrolling on Instagram, perhaps I’ll be intrigued by a story while flipping through an old magazine, I might even want to discuss something I recently saw on TV – who knows. It’s going to be an exercise to really test my writing chops. How will I do?

My December 15th and 22nd posts are about TV and TV writing. Finally my December 29th post is about life in my 40s.

As usual, all these posts will go live sometime before midnight, which usually means about five or 10 minutes before midnight – but who knows? Maybe I’ll switch it up on you.

So sit back, relax. Do whatever you do while you read, because I’m calling all readers. Join me as I practice my craft. Some of it will be good. Some of it will not be as good. But one thing’s for sure, it will be all write!

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. — Psalm 46:4

Lord, let me be that river.
