Teaching Myself to Write Scripts by Reading Them

When it comes to creativity, I scoff at formal training. Instead I think the best way for me to get good at writing scripts is simply by reading them. Come along as I embark on my script reading journey, beginning…

Thank You 2025!!!

So it’s the end of the year. The last day of the year. I think it’s interesting how people start saying happy new year on December 26th.  I don’t get that. Of course when people say it to me, I…

December Writing Practice Part III: Writing and Consuming Romantic Comedies as a Christian

One of my favorite, if not my favorite movie genre is the romantic-comedy or dramady. I just love a good love story, especially one that has some depth and has well developed characters—interesting characters with lives and issues outside of…

December Writing Practice Part II: Care for any T…V?

When I talk about writing I’m mainly talking about books and movie scripts – movie scripts even more so than books. I think movie scripts are a bit easier to write because they are much shorter and to the point….

December Writing Practice Part I: What Happened?

Remember that post from the beginning of this month? The one where I was so ambitious with my writing goals? Yeah, that one. I knew when I thought those goals up, let alone committed them to the keyboard and screen,…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!
