Movie Scenes I Love: ‘Crossing Delancey’ the New Hat Scene

I’m a writer – surprise! And one of my writing goals is to write movie scripts and direct said movies. I watch movies a lot. I watch movies and TV more than I read, which, if you’ve been here a…

Getting Out The House: My Carlsbad Day Trip & a Lesson on FOMO Part II

garlic fries, pizza & lemonade

One of the most highly anticipated parts of any day-trip for me is the food. Normally my $20 overall budget would limit me to fast food options, but my FOMO coerced me into upping my budget to a sit-down restaurant…

Why Naomi Osaka’s Withdrawal may Make the French Open the Ultimate Loser

When I first read that the four Grand Slams ganged up on Naomi Osaka and tried to pressure her into talking to the media or face expulsion, I thought damn, Naomi didn’t realize who she was fuckin’ with. Damn near…

Naomi Osaka Won’t Be Doing French Open Pressers, Here’s Why I Disagree & Agree

So yesterday afternoon, while taking a break from braiding my hair, I was scrolling through Twitter and came across this tweet by tennis phenom, Naomi Osaka: She basically said she’s not doing press conferences at the upcoming French Open (Sunday,…

Getting Out The House: My Carlsbad Day Trip & a Lesson on FOMO Part I

woman standing in the flower fields in Carlsbad, CA

I went into this with my mind made up that $20 wouldn’t do. Nor $27.89, because, you know, I had that left over $7.89 from my little Palm Springs getaway, and I always add the previous trip’s leftovers to the…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!
