Thoughts on The 90s Rom-Com Classic, Boomerang

There are spoilers here. “Boomerang” was like the first black romantic-comedy I think I’ve ever seen. Of course there was “Coming to America” before it, also by Eddie Murphy, but that movie felt more like a comedy with some romance…

Movie Scenes I Love: ‘Working Girl’ the Final Scene

This next movie for Movie Scenes That I Love is truly one of my all-time favorites. It has all the tenets of the type of movie I’m usually partial too: set in New York, made in the 80s and has…

Movie Scenes I Love: This Random Scene from ‘El Cantante’ starring Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

My TV does this picture-in-picture thing where I can see a what’s on other channels in a small box while I watching another. That’s how I came across this movie. I’m a fan of Jennifer Lopez movies from the early…

How I Write: An Excerpt from a Movie Script I’m Working On

Before I get into how I write, I think it’s first important that I tell you about my creative-writing philosophy: I’m self-taught, and I don’t follow rules. I have never taken any creative writing classes, what’s more, I am totally…

Movie Scenes I Love: ‘Crossing Delancey’ the New Hat Scene

My Friday Night had ‘127 Hours’

Just got finished watching the movie 127 Hours. My mother DVR’d it yesterday because she was falling asleep on it. So I replayed it for her today and decided to join her watching it. She, again, fell asleep on it,…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!
