7 Life Lessons I Learned from Climbing the Culver City Stairs

Last Wednesday I finally got around to completing my free day trip task by going to the Culver City Stairs and actually climbing to the top. Looking back, there were seven life lessons I picked up from that experience, and…

And I Can Feel This for Sure, I’ve Been Here Before

Sometimes I do this thing where I revisit previous journal entries from the same day, just to see what I was doing or thinking on that day in years gone by. Since I don’t write every day, I rarely find…

My Solo Evening at the Hollywood Bowl Part II

Just before sitting in my spot, stuffed between two strangers, I surveyed my row. “How many people are supposed to be in this row?” I blurted out, irritated, to the heavy-set woman sitting next to me. “Girl, a lot,” she…

My Solo Evening at the Hollywood Bowl Part I

Sounds so good, don’t you agree? I’m not against friends, but I don’t have any. I’m really picky about the company I keep and I’d rather be alone than be in bad company. That’s not to say that I have…

How I Write: An Excerpt from a Movie Script I’m Working On

Before I get into how I write, I think it’s first important that I tell you about my creative-writing philosophy: I’m self-taught, and I don’t follow rules. I have never taken any creative writing classes, what’s more, I am totally…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!
