Advice FROM My Younger Self

One of the things – in the last decade or so, I don’t know – that’s become really popular is asking people what advice would you give to your younger self. I’ve never understood that question, and furthermore, I’ve grown…

Getting Out The House: Day Trip to South Central LA

woman standing in front of a colorful mural

Writing can be such a solitary pursuit, trapping you in the limitlessness of your mind, isolating you from the outside world and all that’s in it. And with this Coronavirus mess still raging on, that’s all the more reason to…

Writing Anxiety

flowers and plant in front of painting

It’s been hard for me to write lately ya’ll. Not because I don’t have anything to say. Not because I don’t have a ton of ideas, but because I’ve been afraid I don’t have the finesse to communicate them in…

Will the Real Artwork Please Stand Up

Some of you may be wondering why the painting leaning against the wall on top of my file cabinet from my previous post was still shrouded in bubble wrap.  Well, it’s a great story. So come closer, lend me your…

What Went Right with My File Cabinet Makeover Gone Wrong

I love organization even though I can be quite messy – just another irony in my oft paradoxical life.  As such, I’ve been wanting a file cabinet for quite some time, because I’m a bit of a document hoarder as…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!
