My First Attempt at a Photo Shoot Was…Well, You’ll See

I’ve been sorta kinda planning out a photoshoot for this here blog for a while now. But I often don’t get serious enough about deadlines I set for myself, so I just got around to doing it at the beginning…

Sometimes…

I have carefully curated social media accounts.  I don’t follow people based on their celebrity, how many followers they have, or likes they get. I follow based on their content. It basically has to be informative, inspirational (all things creative,…

How I Write: My Just Dribble NBA Story

When I first heard the NBA season might be ending without a championship I was shocked and a bit sad. Like any Laker fan, I too, wanted to see the Lakers take it all, especially since it’s been so long….

Just Dribble: A Lost Opportunity as the NBA Resumes Play

Sunday, August 23, 2020 – Kenosha, Wisconsin. Another police-shooting. POW! POW! POW! POW! POW! POW! POW! This time seven bullet holes in the back. Thankfully, the 29-year-old black man survives. But according to his father he’s paralyzed from the waist…

How I Write: The Kamala Harris Piece

It came to me like a jigsaw puzzle, the pieces consisting of points I wanted to make, things that stood out about her becoming the pick and then later, her acceptance speech.  There was also the added bonus – more…

Kamala Harris: The Audacity of Ambition

I was driving in my car alone, headed home, around 5:30 in the evening, when I heard the news. It came from a prerecorded quick blurb on KJLH radio, congratulating Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s historic vice-presidential pick.  Later, when…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!
