Hi and Bye

Just up late, looking at Instagram, eating watermelon and reading Becoming by Michelle Obama. I finally bought it, a couple days ago, for only like $13, and it’s the hardcover edition. Also, it’s not the one with Oprah’s book club…

#BlackOutDay2020

I first saw mentions of this day during the time when protests were at their peak. It was right around the time when a bunch of people replaced their social media profile pic with a black square, then the idea…

Feeling Feelings

Feeling overwhelmed with ideas, weighed down by a lack of execution. I’m moving at a snails pace, and I guess that’s okay, ’cause I’m not in a race… or am I? A race against myself? A race against time? A…

I Think I Want to Get Back to Writing My Book

I’m writing a book. Actually, I’m writing two books: one fiction, one non-fiction. The fiction one I actually got the idea for when I was 16. I started writing it when I was 20. I was a senior in college,…

Oops, I Did it Again

I have nothing to write… or more like I haven’t written anything for the second night in a row. Maybe this five night a week thing just isn’t my cup of tea. We’ll see. Speaking of see, I’ll see you…

Monday, Monday

Most people don’t like Mondays. I used to feel that way, but now I’m kind of a fan. Weekends can feel lazy even when there’s work to be done. Monday always reminds me there’s work to be done. And even…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. — Psalm 46:4

Lord, let me be that river.
