The Challenges of Putting God First

As a follower of Jesus one of the things I should be doing is putting God first. But what exactly does that mean? Even though I have some idea, it’s definitely easier said than done. Back when I was a…

What Making My Mother’s Birthday Cake Taught Me About Equal Pay

In the last couple of years or so, I’ve been seeing a lot about Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. It gets a hashtag on twitter on the day. It’s basically the day in the current year that black women have…

It’s Quiet Tonight

I have so much to say, I just didn’t give myself enough time to say it, and I didn’t want to leave you hangin’, so hello, hope something made you smile today, and good night.

Breaking My Broke-Ass Mentality

I’ve watched several news specials and read articles about rich people. One thing I’ve discovered about them, is something I pride myself on – many of them are cheap as fuck. I never really thought much of our similarities until…

The Challenges of Becoming a Doer When You’ve Mostly Been a Dreamer

As I’ve mentioned before, one of my favorite YouTube Channels is CNBC Make It.  I like it because it showcases millennials (which I am not, by the way – Gen Xer here) with comfortable incomes ( or at least most…

Thoughts on Workplace Discrimination

I’ve had a lot of jobs, but I would say about on 80 percent of them I’ve experienced some form of workplace discrimination – something racist or sexist or both. Now that I think about it, I think 80 percent…

Hello! Welcome to Shirscribe! I know my face doesn't look so welcoming in this photo, it's just that I did those braids myself and I actually like this pic. But I am really happy you're here, so come on in, have a look around, read a post or 50, comment if you'd like and come back soon!

Introducing My Writing Practice!

You know, writing rarely comes easy for me. Most of the time I mull over it forever, then edit it and edit it,  only for it to still be filled with errors, or just not be quite right.

Part of the problem is I’m reaching for that old unattainable perfection. The other part is I need to read and write more.

So this is me, writing more.

In this series, I’m giving myself two hours to write about a topic of my choice nonstop, and 30 minutes to edit it before I post it here, just as it is.  The great sentences and the incoherent ones with spelling and grammatical errors too.  I’m just going to write and see what it will be.

I’ll be posting these writing practices once a week. I’m not sure which day, and maybe no particular day, just one time a week, with no end date as of now.

I can be so insecure about my writing, so I think this will be helpful.

Here’s to writing and getting better at it!

Thanks for reading!
